The world went into shock and held its collective breath as regular programming was interrupted to report the most powerful man on the planet, the 40th President of the United States of America, President Ronald Reagan had been shot.

On March 30th, 1981, John Hinkley Jr. fired 6 shots at the President, one of those bullets lodging less than an inch from his heart. As he was rushed into surgery with his doctors by his side, he quipped, “I sure hope you are all Republicans.”

Later just out of recovery, he told the First Lady, Nancy (Reagan), “Honey, I forgot to duck!

Perhaps no political or business leader was more adept at humor than President Reagan. He understood the power of humor to win friends and influence people (and voters), to reinforce truths as he saw them, and, and to make us feel better in the wake…
